Goddess Sabrina back in place at Oswestry park after theft bid

Goddess Sabrina is standing proud once again, two months after she was torn from her plinth in an Oswestry park.

It is thought thieves tried to steal the statue of Sabrina holding a water carrier from Cae Glas Park in Oswestry but she was found damaged and abandoned in the park.

Now she has been restored and returned to the park following a project financed by Oswestry Town Council.

Councillor Chris Stokes, whose business Stokes of England transported the statue free of charge to specialist company Castle Fine Arts Foundry in Llanrhaeadr for the restoration, said Sabrina was worth very little in monetary terms.

"She is not a bronze, she has simply been made to look like a bronze," he said. "She has no scrap metal value. The team at Castle Fine Arts has done a fantastic job repairing and rewaxing her. I think she looks not good as new, but better than new."

Oswestry's mayor, Councillor Peter Cherrington, said: "I am so pleased that Sabrina is back in her rightful place, looking stunning amongst the flowers in the park. So many people had noticed that she was missing and had asked if she would be returned. I am delighted that she can now give people enjoyment again."
