Welsh Assembly should have decided on windfarms, says First Minister
Plans to build windfarms and pylons across Mid Wales should have been judged by the Welsh Assembly, the First Minister has claimed.
Carwyn Jones said he believes the Welsh Assembly should have had the final say on plans to build five windfarms and a power line across the region.
Last month, the Department of Energy and Climate Change dismissed appeals for planning permission for four windfarms in Llanbadarn Fynydd, Llaithddu, Llanbrynmair and Carnedd Wen and an overhead power line to connect them to the national supply between Llandinam and Welshpool.
But speaking as he opened a new facility at Control Techniques in Newtown, Mr Jones said: "It is the UK Government's decision and I leave it to them. I think it should have been a Welsh Assembly decision, but it was a matter for them and they went with what they wanted."
Mr Jones has been known to be a strong supporter of wind energy.
His environment minister Carl Sargeant previously described the decision as "hugely disappointing".
