Watch: Shropshire village is immortalised in patchwork

A village has been immortalised in cloth for future generations, with a collage representing the families and places that make up the community in 2015.

Parishioners in and around Wistanstow, a small village near Craven Arms, have pulled together to each make a square for the collage, depicting everything from local institutions to residents, and each made from different materials.

The artwork has now been hung in Wistanstow village hall and it is hoped it will become a permanent fixture for years to come.

Resident Veronica Lewis said the project was organised as part of celebrations to mark the Queen becoming the longest reigning monarch this year.

She said: "This was not done by any particular group, just by everyone who lives in the parish – we all just got together. It was something we first thought about when making bunting to go through the whole village for the Queen's diamond jubilee."

As well as local families, squares were made by Wistanstow Primary School, Holy Trinity Church, the Plough Inn and local farms Church Farm and Manor Farm.
