Severn Trent will begin the work along the A442 Bridgnorth to Kidderminster road next month.

A public meeting will be held to give residents more information and updates about diversions in the next few weeks.

Graham Hurry, clerk of Alveley Parish Council, near Bridgnorth, said: "The council has been told these works will take place between November and March.

"We are still waiting for exact details but Severn Trent and its contractor Amey will be delivering letters.

"A public briefing session will also be held but we don't know when this will be."

Rebecca Murphy, spokeswoman for Severn Trent, said the scheme would see pipes replaced that had weakened over the years.

She said: "We're planning to replace the water pipes in the Alveley area as over the years they can become more prone to leaks and bursts.

"We want to make sure our customers' water supply is always there when they need it. That's why we're laying the brand new water pipes.

"Work is due to start early November and we'll be inviting residents to a drop-in session nearer the time to hear in more detail about the work we'll be doing."

Meanwhile, the first phase of a £2 million project to replace worn-out water pipes in Shrewsbury is expected to be completed by November 9.

The works, which were due to start on October 5, were brought forward by Severn Trent.

Up to two-and-a-half miles of piping is being replaced in the Oteley Road and Roman Road area in Meole Brace.

The water firm said it had decided to bring forward the work so it can be finished a week earlier and not impact on Christmas trade.

The mains in Roman Road have a history of leaks and bursts. The area was badly hit by flooding in 2014 and again earlier this year when water pipes burst, flooding homes and businesses with gallons of water, causing damage that cost thousands of pounds to repair.

Road closures have been in place as phase two runs until December A third phase will start in the new year.

Severn Trent workers have also been clearing drains on a housing estate in Newport which has suffered with flooding issues.

The entrance to Waterside Mews floods every time there is heavy rainfall, with water coming up through the sewerage pipes.
