Work under way at eyesore Telford hotel

Bulldozers have moved in on a derelict former hotel in Wellington which is being converted into homes.

A meeting of Wellington Town Council last night at the civic offices heard that partial demolition work started on Monday at the former Charlton Arms.

The hotel closed 10 years ago and has since fallen derelict, becoming an eyesore.

But a grant of £300,000 from Telford & Wrekin Council earlier this year has kickstarted the redevelopment of the site, and parts of the former hotel are being retained.

When it is completed there will be up to 41 homes there, including 11 apartments in the former hotel.
