Houses backing onto the canal in Newport have been the main target for the past few weeks.

Police officers claim people are taking the dog mess out of bins, before hurling them at the houses.

Constable Lee Thomas of West Mercia Police said: "It does appear that whoever is responsible has been literally taking the dog bags out of bins along the canal and other streets and then throwing it either at house walls or conservatories.

"Not only does this cause an unsightly and smelly mess for residents to have to clean off, but those responsible will have no idea if the dog that generated the mess had any sort of infection or parasite.

"If this is the case the culprits could quite easily infect themselves if the bags burst whilst being held or carried.

"Members of the Newport Safer Neighbourhood Team have been paying particular attention to the canal area in the evenings this last week, as most of the attacks seem to be happening between 6pm and 9pm suggesting it's likely to be the work of children."
