Motorbike rider Ross, 11, ready to reign in Spain
Motorbike racer Ross Turner is heading to Spain to compete in a championship – at the grand old age of 11.
Ross, who is in his first year at Adams Grammar School in Newport, will represent Great Britain in the final round of the Moto4 Class series of the Spanish RFME.
The youngster, from Broseley, started riding motorcycles at the age of two and by his fifth birthday had decided he wanted to be a motorcycle racer.
After crafting his skills in the British Minimoto and British Mini GP championships Ross made the move to the Moto4 World Championships in 2014.
The Moto4 series of races is known as the Moto GP nursery and has been the proving ground for two times MotoGP champion Marc Marquez.
Ross said: "I have always loved bikes and first started riding motorcycles when I was two years old.
"I remember watching a minimoto race when I was five and it was then that I decided I really wanted to be a motorcycle racer.
"I have to keep really fit for the sport and so I cycle around five miles every day as well as boxing training twice a week."
Ross' father Simon Turner, who helps organise his son's busy schedule said: "The future is looking bright.
"Ross now has full sponsorship for all his rider equipment through Feridax who supply his custom made leathers, boots and helmets.
"He's also sponsored by Core Motorsport Thailand who run a successful world super-sport team but we are always looking for additional sponsorship as this level of racing is very expensive.
"Next year Ross will continue to race in the Moto4 championship but will be preparing for his move up to Moto3 in both the Spanish and British BSB series."
Currently Ross rides a prototype NSF150R Honda and regularly hits speeds of 120mph on grand prix tracks in Spain, whilst racing 35 of the best junior riders from across the globe.
Gary Hickey, headmaster at Adams Grammar said: "We're very pleased to have Ross at Adams'.
"He has already shown great commitment and dedication to his sport and to his academic studies and we're really looking forward to watching his progress."
