Speaking at a memorial event for Len Woodhall at Wellington Boxing Academy, the former WBC super middleweight champion said the turn-out at the sold-out event showed the affection people had for his father.

He said: "It has been a really bad year for the family, obviously devastated losing my dad, but he had a tremendous funeral, I thought. He touched a lot of people and it showed with the turn out at the funeral.

"It was an incredible turn out and again tonight the place is sold out. He put a lot of work into the community for amateur boxing, he has been a great servant. He was a great guy and above all else he was a good man."

Len, Richie and head coach Fiaz first formed the Wellington club five years ago.

They moved in to their current base from their previous home in Heygate Lane in 2013.

Len, former coach and boxing guru, died in July after a long battle with cancer.

His death was followed by tributes from across the boxing community, including British boxer Tony Bellew, who has landed a role in Rocky spin-off film Creed.

Richie said: "Tony Bellew, that was a lovely touch from him, and the whole boxing community has come together. It is a really difficult time but they made it just a little bit easier for the family, the love and support they gave us. We really appreciate that."
