Remembrance Sunday: Shropshire prepares to pay tribute to fallen

Shropshire and Mid Wales will be paying tribute to all the men and women who have died serving their country in Remembrance Sunday parades and services.

Events are planned across the region over the next two weeks, including Remembrance Sunday on November 8.

In Shrewsbury the main event will be the remembrance service at St Chad's Church and a parade on the Sunday.

The parade will take place through the town and will be attended by service personnel, members of the town council, scouts, guides and cubs.

Telford & Wrekin Council's annual event, held in association with the Royal British Legion and Telford Christian Council, will be held at The Place in Oakengates Theatre on November 8 at 8pm.

In Market Drayton the town council is once again holding its annual festival of remembrance on November 8.

The event will begin with a parade forming at Queen Street car park at 10.10am, which will go through the town to St Mary's Church.

A church service will then be held from 10.45am to 11.35am ahead of a parade from the church at 11.45am.

This will be followed by a salute outside NatWest Bank at 11.55am and a service by the war memorial at noon.

In Wem a united service of remembrance will be held at the parish church on November 8.

This will get under way at 10.50am on the grass around the memorial and will be followed by a service in the church.

Royal British Legion members, scouts, guides, brownies and all other interested organisations are being invited to assemble at the main car park at 10.30am ahead of the event.

In Oswestry the town's branch of the Royal British Legion will be holding a festival of remembrance at St Oswald's Church in the town on Saturday(OCT31), starting at 7pm.

A series of events will be held in Welshpool, starting with a Field of Remembrance event on November 2.

The event, at St Mary's Church, will start at 6.30pm and see remembrance crosses laid in the churchyard.

On November 6 a short service of remembrance will be held at the Memorial Gardens, Howell Drive at 2pm.

Later that evening, a festival of remembrance will be held in the town hall assembly rooms at 7.30pm.

Then on November 8, the parade will start at 10.40am from Park Lane, heading to St Mary's Church for the service, finishing at the town hall around noon.

In Ludlow there will be remembrance service at the Church of St Laurence on College Street at 10.30am on November 8.

The service will be accompanied by a parade and wreath laying.

In Church Stretton the Royal British Legion will lead a parade from the Church Stretton & District Club on Essex Road to St Laurence's Church on Church Street for a 10am service. The service will be followed by wreath laying and two minute silence at the war memorial, and playing of the Last Post.

Meanwhile, Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be holding a service of remembrance on November 8.

Visitors will be able to attend the service led by Padre Richard Clement, Station Chaplain at RAF Cosford, with music by the Cosford Military Wives Choir, who will perform for visitors on arrival and during the service. The service will take place in the Museum's Hangar 1 at 10.30am.
