Andrew Miles, 38, used cards and obtained money belonging to Patricia Pride dating back seven years.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday, Miles pleaded guilty to fraud in September 2009 by falsely representing that he was entitled to place £5,000 worth of bets with the Betfair company. He admitted a similar charge relating to a debit card when he used £1,900 to place bets with Bet365 in June this year.

Miles pleaded guilty to the theft of £2,300 between June 13 and 19.

Sentence was adjourned until November 16 and Miles, of The Smithfield, Newport, was allowed bail on condition he did not contact his mother. But as he is likely to be jailed Judge Peter Barrie agreed to Miles having one meeting with her.
