Major changes could be made to a controversial one-way system in Mid Wales – including opening part of it to two-way traffic.

Welsh Assembly transport minister Edwina Hart visited Welshpool yesterday to view the system.

Mrs Hart confirmed to Montgomeryshire AM Russell George that she will ask officers to look at the prospect of turning Brook Street back to two-way.

Mr George said: "I was pleased the minister was receptive to the idea of alterations being made. She committed her officials to reviewing the proposals to return Brook Street to two-way traffic and she will also consider other measures.

"Last year, I conducted a survey on the town's one-way system. It would seem there is a consensus that a number of alterations would support the better flow of traffic in the town."
