Telford teenager stubbed cigarette out on his girlfriend's wrist
An 18-year-old man who stubbed a cigarette out on his girlfriend's wrist has been given a suspended prison sentence.
James Kelly, from Telford, was said to have been "controlling and domineering" during his relationship with the victim, Chelsea Rainbow.
At Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday Judge Peter Barrie said Kelly had been involved in a "pattern of appalling behaviour" and had a great deal of growing up to do.
"You were controlling and domineering and there were repeated episodes of violence, involving punching and kicking, and you stubbed out a cigarette on her causing scarring to her wrist," he said.
Kelly was sentenced to seven months at a Young Offenders' Institution, suspended for a year, and he will be under supervision and must attend 25 sessions of a specified activity.
In addition, Kelly must complete 120 hours' unpaid work and will be subject to a 10-year restraining order preventing him contacting Miss Rainbow, keeping away from anywhere she is living and to keep away from her mother's address.
Kelly, unemployed, of James Way, Donnington, had pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm in June.
Miss Samantha Powis, for Kelly, said her client, who was intending to join the Army, was very immature and there had been no contact with the victim for some time.
