West Mercia Police said gold jewellery has been targeted on a number of occasions in recent months, sparking police to issue a warning to residents.

Officers in Telford are now urging people in the Wellington area to remain vigilant. The force said there had been a number of incidents across the borough in recent months.

Detectives say that with the value of gold currently very high, there has been an increase in reports of burglaries where jewellery, particularly from Asian families, has been targeted.

The first incident occurred on Friday between 4pm and 8.40pm in Parkdale, Hadley. The second incident took place on the same day between 5.30pm and 11.30pm in Kingsway Crescent, Arleston, while the third burglary happened in Herbert Avenue, Wellington, on Monday between 7.15pm and 8.20pm.

DI Jason Everett, investigating officer, said: "Domestic burglary will not be tolerated."
