Amazing picture of peregrine falcon and chicks at The Wrekin

The magical moment when a mother peregrine falcon flies off to gather more food for her three fledglings has been brilliantly captured by John Brettell.

Mr Brettell snapped the bird of prey in flight from the Forest Glen, at the bottom of The Wrekin.

The retired 74-year-old, of Haughton Hill, Wellington, waited patiently for the shot, visiting the site on numerous occasions during the spring and summer months before the youngsters eventually took to the skies themselves.

He used a Canon 5D Mark II with a Sigma 150-600mm lens to get this shot of peregrines.

"They were all nesting on that cliff face for some time," he said.

"There were three fledglings and I went up quite a few times to see them.

"The young have moved on since then but the adults are still around because they can keep catching food.

"Photography is a keen hobby of mine and I like to take pictures of wildlife.

"We also travel a lot so taking pictures goes hand-in-hand with that."

Mr Brettell used to supply the Shropshire Star and Express & Star with the latest photography equipment through his business, Warner Professional, before retiring 12 years ago.

He said: "I supplied all the big companies including the Star and Central TV.

"I didn't like it when digital came in and we had to make some monumental changes.

"We went on to supply the papers with their first batch of digital equipment."
