Concerns for Dorothy Perkins' future in Shrewsbury as Primark moves in

The future of a high street fashion store in Shrewsbury  town centre is uncertain as it prepares to leave its current premises to make way for a new Primark.

Dorothy Perkins, in the Darwin Shopping Centre, will soon be forced to relocate as part of a £12 million makeover at the centre that will see fashion giant Primark move in.

Nine units will be refitted, giving Primark a total floorspace of 30,300 sq ft.

But it will mean Dorothy Perkins will have to vacate its unit, sparking fears it could close in the town.

Dorothy Perkins also has a store in Telford Shopping Centre. No-one from the company was available to comment.

Niall Macdonald, deputy fund manager with UK Commercial Property Trust that runs the town's shopping centres, said they were in talks with Dorothy Perkins to find them a "suitable, alternative unit".
