Ellesmere Market Hall bosses fume over fly-tipping
The leader of a community-run company in Ellesmere has hit out after yet another fly-tipping problem outside the town's market hall.
Lincoln McMullan, chairman of All Together Ellesmere, which runs the town's market hall on Scotland Street, said he was fed up with people dumping items outside the building.
The building has been left looking untidy this week after people left an old sofa near the bins.
Mr McMullan said; "I think it is outrageous. It is going on all the time and it is a real problem. We have had this now at least half a dozen times – and sometimes it is just small things – but these big items are just ridiculous.
"We had a couch turned upside down on its head and put in the bin. People see the bins and think they can dump anything there but they are private bins."
Mr McMullan said the building was regularly a victim of fly-tipping and while they had installed locks on the bins, it was still a problem.
All Together Ellesmere took over the running of the market hall, which had been operating at a loss, in 2013 from Shropshire Council. Work to tidy up the building after the change included creating a new kitchen.
And Mr McMullan said he did not want to see hard work go to waste with people leaving rubbish outside.
He said: "I don't know why people can't take the things to the tip – if they can bring them here surely they can take them to the tip. It makes it look dirty and untidy.
"It is not very pretty, especially when we have market day and these things are left outside.
"We have had pillows put there, mattresses, we had a black bag that was heavy. When I got help to move that it split and ladies' underwear came falling out.
"Something needs to be done about it. The council needs to be looking at it more and looking at CCTV and trying to sort this out.
"We are raising funds just to keep the market hall going, we can't be paying to have things removed and taken to the tip."
