Ironbridge Gorge road to close for safety work
A main road into the Ironbridge Gorge is set to be closed next week for safety works.
Jiggers Bank in Coalbrookdale will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 10 and 11, to allow workers from the Severn Gorge Countryside to complete work to remove a piece of sandstone from the side of the road.
Russell Rowley, from the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust said it would be working along the rockface, causing the entirety of the road to be closed.
He said: "Basically, back in December following an abseil inspection we discovered one quite large block of sandstone that needs to be removed.
"Obviously because that involves working at height we don't want to run the risk of that falling onto anyone on the ground and we don't know how long it is going to take to come off.
"They are also going to be doing some vegetation clearance, they're going to put an extra cable in on the cabling, they're going to tighten all the bolts, there will actually be quite a lot of work going on.
"We don't like closing the road but because it will take a while we will need to close the road.
"We are going to take advantage and do quite a few other jobs."
Drains in the road will also be cleaned out in a bid to prevent the need for further closures in the near future.
Nearby road Cherry Tree Hill will also be closed at the request of Telford & Wrekin Council.
The road closures will be in place from 8am to 6pm with access for residents and a diversion will be put in place.
This is not part of the stabilisation work done by Telford & Wrekin Council on the road around 12 months ago. .
