Fears raised over Tenbury Wells sorting office
Tenbury Wells Post Office could close and move into a supermarket – sparking fears for the future of the area's sorting office.
Consultation has been launched on plans to move the post office branch in Teme Street. It would be run from Bowkett's supermarket in Market Square under the proposals.
But it is not yet known what will happen to the sorting office based in the Teme Street building.
Members of Tenbury Town Council have requested more details on the future of the building before deciding whether to support the plan. Royal Mail says no decisions have been made on either the post office or sorting office – which are run as separate businesses – as yet.
Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire county councillor for the Tenbury area, said it was a valid concern for businesses with lots of deliveries if the sorting office was to go. But he said he could see no major problem with moving the post office at the start of next year.
Town mayor Councillor Mark Willis and clerk Dawn Worgan have resolved to look into the possible effect of the move on the future of the sorting office.
