Rubbish tip worker suffers leg injuries

A site worker is in a serious condition in hospital after suffering major injuries to his legs after an accident at a landfill site.

The 62-year-old man was working at Bryn Posteg Landfill Site in Tylwch Road, Llanidloes, when he was injured by machinery on the site. Emergency services were called amid reports he had suffered a double leg amputation after being hit by a lorry.

The extent of his injuries and the cause of the accident have not been confirmed.

Potters Waste Management, which runs the site, confirmed that an incident took place at the site on Friday morning .

Operations director Debbie Potter said: "All our thoughts at this time are with a long-serving member of staff and his family. We are working closely with the Health & Safety Executive officers investigating this incident."

The site was closed over the weekend but work resumed on Monday morning.

Lois Hough, spokeswoman for Welsh Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to reports a man had been seriously injured at the Bryn Posteg landfill site. The man was airlifted to hospital in Stoke in a critical condition."
