Caught on CCTV: Drug addict had sex on bench at Blists Hill Victorian Town

A Telford drug addict was caught on CCTV having sex with a woman on the car park at Blists Hill Victorian Town – in full view of her six-year-old son who was sitting just yards away, a court heard.

Christopher Perkins was high on a cocktail of drugs and booze and said he could not even remember the incident.

Even his solicitor said he could not offer any mitigation for his client and said the incident was a "sad example of the levels of depravity humans can be reduced to when consuming drugs".

Security staff at the site first spotted Perkins accepting a bag of white pills from another man on the Blists Hill car park on August 17.

A guard continued to monitor the 25-year-old and then witnessed him having sex with the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on a bench while her son sat on another bench nearby.

Telford Magistrates Court heard police were called and followed the pair as they left in a taxi.

Mrs Abigail Hall, prosecuting, said officers found a bag of pills in the taxi after bringing it to a stop.

Perkins, of Meadow Brook Close, Madeley, admitted outraging public decency when he appeared at Telford Magistrates Court.

He also admitted charges of possessing three different class C drugs – BZP, DBZP and TFMPP – on the same date.

The court also heard of another incident in Woodside Avenue on July 24 when Perkins and another man were walking in the road stopping traffic and generally being abusive.

Mrs Hall said one woman, Jodie Nesbitt, said she was terrified after Perkins came over banging on her bonnet and windows, abusing her and demanding she got out of the car.

He told police he also had no recollection of that incident – but pleaded guilty to a fifth charge of using threatening words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence at court.

Mr John McMillan, for Perkins, said: "How can I mitigate this case? It is impossible.

"It is a sad example of the levels of depravity humans can be reduced to when consuming drugs.

"He didn't even remember either of them. He did hold his head in his hands when he was shown in full technicolour what he had been doing.

"He is upset and disgusted with himself.

"When he drinks he takes drugs. He knows what is causing it and he knows what he has got to do about it."

Magistrates sentenced Perkins to a 12-month community order to include 30 days of rehabilitation and a six-month alcohol treatment requirement.

He was also ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and pay a total of £625 in costs and charges, including £100 compensation to Miss Nesbitt.
