Dr Bill Gowans has resigned from the group which pays for local healthcare.

His resignation comes a week after Dr Caron Morton also quit as the organisation's accountable officer.

An announcement about the long-term leadership of the CGC will be made as soon as possible, a spokesman said.

Dr Gowans has been a full-time GP partner and trainer for 22 years, and a GP course organiser for seven years, the Shropshire CCG website says.

Dr Morton, who lives in Ruyton-XI-Towns, near Oswestry, was placed on authorised leave in late September and had been a leading figure in the Future Fit programme outlining the reorganisation of health services in the county, including changes to A&E provision.

Dr Morton is believed to be going back into a practice part time in Bishop's Castle. She had previously served as a GP and partner at Station Drive Surgery, in Ludlow, before moving into management with the then Shropshire County Primary Care Trust.
