Downton Abbey star Jim Carter helps school celebrate success
He is well known as the no-nonsense butler Mr Carson in the hit ITV drama Downton Abbey.
But for once Jim Carter was the one being served a cup of tea on a visit to the region.
He attended a tea party at Shocklach Oviatt CE Primary School in Malpas, near Whitchurch, yesterday to help youngsters celebrate their recent successful Ofsted report.
Later he delighted a packed-out audience with jokes, magic and tales of his acting career at nearby Bishop Heber School.
Mr Carter said he was thrilled to be in the area and said he thought both Shrewsbury and Ludlow were "lovely".
He spent the night telling stories about his time as part of Downton Abbey.
He also talked about plans for a longed-for holiday after wife Imelda Staunton finishes work on the production Gypsy.
