Asda, which has petrol stations in Telford and Shrewsbury, has cut the price of a litre to 99.7p.

It is all part of a stunt for Black Friday weekend, although analysts predict the two-digit price tag may soon become the norm because of falling oil prices.

The 4p drop at the pumps led to queues at Asda Donnington, Telford town centre and at Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury.

It is the cheapest petrol on offer in Shropshire since 2009. A litre of diesel will cost 103.7p until tomorrow before reverting to its former price of 106.7p on Monday.

Asda said it would not participate in this year's Black Friday after chaotic scenes in store aisles last year, but dropped its fuel prices as an alternative way to lure shoppers.

Chancellor George Osborne held off a price increase on fuel duty in his spending review this week and Asda boss Andy Clarke urged him to maintain the freeze in the March budget.
