The man, believed to be in his 90s, was hit the wall of Livian Autos on Heath Hill roundabout in Dawley.

Staff from the business say the man was travelling at high speeds when he left the road and went on to their forecourt.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 11.30am.

Paul Myler from the business said he had been kneeling in the spot the car came through just moments before the accident happened.

A wheel trim from the car also flew off as it left the road and came perilously close to hitting Mr Myler, missing him by inches and landing between him and the car he had been working on.

He said: "It came across the verge between a grey box and the lampost.

"It was an old man, I think he was in his 90s, and he had his granddaughter in the car.

"His foot was jammed on the accelerator, he must have been going about 60 miles per hour and he came right past where I was working.

"We don't know what caused it, just that the accelerator was jammed down.

"There is normally a limo in that spot but it wasn't here today for some reason."

Jamie Arrowsmith, a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said two people had been in the car and one elderly male was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital with an arm injury.
