Strong wind brings scaffolding down on cars near Shropshire border
The 40mph winds which hit the region this weekend left shoppers with a nasty surprise when they returned to their cars to find a large section of scaffolding had blown down and landed across a row of vehicles.
The 40m stretch of scaffolding, which was in place while work was carried out on the roof of the Co-op shop in Eccleshall Road, Loggerheads, near Market Drayton, was blown over in the high winds on Saturday morning, landing on six cars parked outside the shop.
A spokesman for the shop said: "It happened at about 9.30am and we had to shut the shop for six hours while the scaffolding was taken away and the cars were moved. It was a nightmare.
"Fortunately most people were okay with it because they realised it was just an accident and it wasn't our fault.
"The worst thing was that the scaffolding was supposed to have been taken down on Thursday. They've been doing work on the guttering because it's been leaking in the rain."
All the cars were unoccupied at the time and no one was injured.
Hannah Justice, 21, drove past the shop shortly after the scaffolding had come down.
She said: "I was pretty surprised to see the scaffolding had all come down.
"When I went past there were quite a few people there and the fire brigade were in attendance sorting it out. The winds have been really strong."
