In pictures: Shropshire man's bright idea to boost charity funds with festive lights
[gallery] As Christmas draws closer, elaborate and flamboyant festive light displays have begun to emerge across Shropshire.
But not many can rival the unique display of Philip Tranter who has covered his house in home-made decorations to raise money for charity.
The display, which took Mr Tranter three weekends to put up at his house in Higher Heath, near Whitchurch, took months of planning.
Mr Tranter, 40, started creating the displays 15 years ago and describes himself as a 'big kid at heart'.
He has set up scaffolding outside his house with Santa and his sleigh in lights on it and built a moving train track. There is also a nativity scene.
"It all began 15 years ago and I have been hooked since," Mr Tranter said.
"I have had two breaks over the years but I love doing the displays. I do it because I enjoy it.
"It is nice to share with people and a great bonus to raise money for fantastic charities.
"I have made all the lights myself.
"The nativity set is made out of recycled timber.
"The Santa lights I put up on scaffolding I had from when I built my house and I also made the train track running along the front of the house.
"It looks very eye-catching.
"Everyone has given me very positive comments. It took three weekends to put up but was worth it. The biggest challenge was putting everything up in the strong wind and rain."
A collection bucket is at the front of Mr Tranter's house in order for people to donate to the Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
He added: "I chose that charity because so many things are done for national causes that I wanted to support one close to home. I'm really pleased to support Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
"I am already thinking of plans to make the display bigger and better next year."
John Hughes, of Shropshire Wildlife Trust, added: "We are delighted Philip has chosen to make us the beneficiary of his Christmas lights. What a wonderful way to raise money."
