Delays as Oswestry A5 crash driver cut free – and bird hits car in separate incident
A motorist had to be cut free from their car after it was involved in a collision on a main road through Shropshire.
Emergency services were sent to the A5 near Oswestry after two cars were in collision and one ended up stuck down an embankment.
The accident, between Gobowen and the Gledrid Island heading towards Oswestry, happened at about 3.30pm yesterday.
The crash involved a BMW and a Volkswagen Caddy.
The accident caused one of the cars to fall down an embankment, where it became stuck for several hours.
Today police tweeted:
Paul Roberts, spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to a road traffic collision at 3.35pm. The accident happened on the A5 in Gobowen, near to the junction of the B5609 heading towards Oswestry.
"Motorists faced delays while emergency services dealt with the accident."
The police along with the fire service and West Midlands Ambulance Service were also at the scene.
Motorists ended up facing long delays and were advised to find alternative routes around the town.
One motorist caught up in the delays was Pamela Kingsley, who said: "The queue from town was not moving, and many cars were heading through Gobowen to get past. It must have caused long delays for many rush hour drivers."
Three fire crews from Ellesmere, Oswestry and Wellington attended the scene to winch the car back on the
road.
The crews left the scene at about 5.19pm.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, police were called out after a goose flew into a car and went through the windscreen.
The accident happened on the A442 in Telford.
In a tweet, the force said the bird landed in the footwell of the passenger seat:
The windscreen was smashed but it is understood that the driver was
unhurt.
