Woman's handbag snatched in Newport store car park
Police are investigating reports that a woman had her handbag stolen from her car after she was distracted by two men in Newport.
The womans said her bag was snatched as she was getting into her car at the town's Waitrose store this week and two men started talking to her.
A third man then opened her passenger door and took her bag off the seat, she said.
Shoppers have also claimed that men have been sitting in cars watching people withdraw cash.
These men are believed to be wearing bluetooth earpieces.
However, police said no one has reported any of these crimes and are asking the public to do so.
Lee Thomas of West Mercia Police said: "No incidents have been reported at Waitrose in Newport recently.
""There are two posts doing the rounds on social media about incidents on Waitrose car park where ladies have been distracted by males who tried to steal handbags.
"One has not been reported to ourselves so we have no info about it at all, and the other happened back in November at Morrisons car park in Market Drayton.
"But when we check our systems you find that no-one has actually reported it. It boils down to the same message – if people are not calling police to report matters, then we do not know about them.
"We cannot investigate or have any opportunity to recover property and deal with the offenders, nor research patterns to other crimes that may have been reported to build the bigger picture."
Anyone who sees a crime or is a victim of crime should call police on 101.
