George Robert Taylor, 25, was caught three times over the legal limit on December 6 by police after drinking with friends in The Tavern pub in Newport.

Telford Magistrates Court was told Taylor had had an argument with his mother earlier in the day about his messy room and had then gone out drinking with friends.

Taylor appeared at court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to drink driving. He was disqualified from driving for two years by magistrates.

The court heard how Taylor, of Longwithy Lane in Edgmond, had hit a parked car on Boughey Road in Newport after getting behind the wheel of his BMW Mini.

No-one was injured but the collision caused damage to the parked Honda's wing mirror.

Mr John McMillan, for Taylor, said: "He had a row with his mum about his room being a mess.

"He got in his car following this and had a drink with his friends. He was planning on getting a taxi but on this occasion, for whatever reason, he got in his car and decided to drive home."

Mr Adam Warner, prosecuting, said Taylor told police he had five pints of cider before driving that night.

When Taylor was breathalysed by police officers he was found to have 111 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath in his system. The legal limit is 35.

Taylor was also handed a £260 fine.
