Councillor Kuldip Sahota, leader of Telford & Wrekin Council claimed 2015 was a year to be proud of for the town.

In his New Year message, he cited the award-winning Telford Park and the announcement of Donnington's selection as the MoD logistics centre as major boosts for the area.

He said: "As New Year approaches, it is a good time to reflect on the past 12 months and to look ahead to the year to come. Among the most significant achievements were Donnington being chosen as the new MoD National Logistics Centre, securing millions in investment and hundreds of jobs, while at Wheat Leasows our solar farm, only the second council owned farm in the UK, switched on and is now generating green energy and income for the council.

"We have continued other new ideas to generate income such as Nuplace – a wholly owned company that is building much-needed houses for private rent across the borough.

"The first two sites will be ready for people to move into in the spring."

The Donnington deal is expected to bring 700 jobs to the area as well as generating around £60 million for the economy.

Councillor Sahota said he was also delighted that the borough had been able to provide entertainment for its residents, using the award winning Telford Town Park as its base.

"Our Boyzone concert attracted probably the biggest crowd an event Telford has ever seen - almost 8,000 people, including many coming to our borough for the first time.
