Engineers are working on repairing phone lines in Church Stretton and have apologised to customers for the problems over the past five days. It is believed the town's health centre is among the buildings affected. But it is not known when the lines will be working again.

Emma Tennant, spokeswoman from Openreach which installs and maintains the lines on behalf of all communications providers, said: "Engineers are working to restore services to about 100 customers in the Church Stretton area.

"Temporary traffic lights were set up in Sandford Avenue yesterday to enable engineers to work safely.

"Openreach apologies for any inconvenience while work is going on to pinpoint the cause of the fault and restore services to those affected, which engineers are trying to do as quickly as possible.

"Every effort is being made to keep disruption to those affected – and local motorists – to an absolute minimum.

"Openreach recommends that anyone affected contact their service provider to see if they are able to divert incoming calls to an alternative number while the repair work is taking place."

Watling Street South resident Brian Woodhouse, said: "We have been without phone lines for a few days.

"I have spoken to three of my neighbours and they are without phones.

"I have just returned from work and the lads there told me some of them are without phones, and someone said that the health centre is also down.

"I can't confirm this but two separate people have told me this."
