Man suffers facial injury in attempted armed robbery

A man suffered a facial injury during an attempted armed robbery in the early hours of the morning.

The victim was walking along New Road, in Oakengates, when he noticed three men standing by a line of parked cars.

One of the men appeared to be holding a gun close to his body.

One of the men called after the victim demanding that he handed over property and as he made off he felt a blow to the side of his head and fell to the floor.

He suffered a slight facial injury, but did not require medical treatment.

Nothing was stolen.

The offenders walked away and the victim contacted the police.

It happened shortly before 1am on January 5 and police are now appealing for witnesses.

The first man is described as white, aged between 23 and 25, medium build, 5ft 8ins with light brown hair.

He was wearing a black, zip-up jacket, dark trousers and a dark cap.

He was carrying a gun with a dark oak coloured handle with brass fittings which is described as an old war pistol.

The second man was 5ft 6ins, wearing camouflage trousers and a light coloured hooded top with the hood up.

The third man was white, about 25-years-old, 5ft 2ins and of small build.

He had a moustache and hair on his chin, and was wearing dark trousers and a hooded top with the hood up.
