The drama happened yesterday at about 3.30pm between the canal and The Bridge Public House.

A car pulled up alongside the young girl, who was walking in the rain, and told her to get in the vehicle.

He went on to tell the girl he has been asked to pick her up by her mother.

However, the girl said no and the driver left the scene heading towards the High Street.

Pc Lee Thomas, of West Mercia Police said: "This is a very worrying incident which could have easily had a more serious conclusion.

"The driver pulled up alongside the girl who was walking home in the rain and told her he had been sent to pick her up by her mother.

"Luckily the girl was very sensible, shouted 'No she didn't' at the driver and went straight home to tell her parents what had happened.

"The driver of the car, believed to be a dark blue, old shaped Ford Mondeo, is described as white and in his thirties and wearing a black coat.

"The car then drove away towards the High Street and we would ask anyone who may have seen such a male in a vehicle matching this description in town to contact police."

To report an incident like this contact West Mercia Police on 101 and ask for the investigating officer Pc Craig Davies.
