No signal: Three months without a connection for Craven Arms couple
A Shropshire couple have been without any kind of telephone connection at home for three months after changing provider.
Stephen and Diana Bryant, who live in Horderley, near Craven Arms, say they have not been able to make or receive calls at home since they agreed to sign up with EE for both mobile and landline in October.
The phone firm has now apologised and said Mr Bryant will not be charged for either broadband or the use of his landline until the problem is fixed.
Mr Bryant, 74, a self-employed gardener, said he had to use a neighbour's phone or go a mile up the road to get a mobile signal to make any calls, a situation which had dragged on for months.
He said he was previously on a pay-as-you-go phone contract but decided to upgrade last autumn and went for a complete package with EE, covering mobile, landline and broadband services.
But it was a decision he had come to regret, he said.
He said: "We're both in our 70s. We need a landline.
"We didn't have a landline for Christmas. It was absolutely diabolical.
"We have relations abroad, but we couldn't contact them over Christmas – there has not been one week since October when we've had wi-fi at home. Our family has given up trying to contact us because they say 'you're not on the phone any more'," he said.
"I've been on the phone to EE for 12 weeks on and off, about 20 hours in total, it's just driving us mad."
A spokesman for EE said Mr Bryant had not and would not be charged for either broadband or landline until the problem had been rectified.
He said: "We would like to apologise to Mr Bryant for the problems he has experienced with his broadband and landline.
"We are currently investigating his case with our broadband partner and are working to find a resolution as quickly as possible," the spokesman added.
