A team of runners from the Harry Tuffins supermarket in Craven Arms took part in the Shropshire Mud Run event at Condover before Christmas in memory of Ruby Tuffin-Delves.

Ruby, who was the daughter of store founder Harry Tuffin, died aged 75 after a battle with cancer last autumn.

Now the Tuffin Mud Runners have handed over £6,000 raised from their participation in the mud run to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Harry Delves, one of the leaders of the mud running team, said the charity was hugely appreciative of their donation. He said: "They were delighted to receive the money and it works well because we donated to the Shropshire branch, so it will be used to support people in the Shropshire area.

"It feels great to hand money over to charity and I think that desire to help is ingrained in us as a family, as my parents and grand-parents also raised money for good causes.

"We only took over running the store a couple of years ago, but we intend to carry on helping people and raising money.

"We work with NISA's Make A Difference Locally campaign as well as taking part in more hare-brained schemes such as the mud run."

The mud run took place last November at Condover and was completed by a team of six that included Harry's wife Anika and staff members Ed Prosser, Richard Davies and Stuart Turton.

Mr Delves said: "We chose Macmillan not just because of what has happened to us, but because cancer is something that is going to affect everyone in some way, sometime in their life, and we felt we should do what we can to raise awareness."
