Why Shrews v Sheffield is a crunch match for Max

It's fair to say not everyone was celebrating after Shrewsbury Town were drawn against Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Lifelong Sheffield Wednesday fan Max Ball, from Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, admits he's in an "awkward situation", with most of his friends and work-mates backing the Town, and he expects it to get even worse if his team loses at the Greenhous Meadow on January 30.

"I've had a season ticket at Wednesday for the past 12 seasons, but most of the guys I work with are Town fans. I am already taking a bit of stick in work and if we lose, I will never hear the end of it." he said.

"It's definitely a winnable match, but either way it should be a good game."

Max's manager at Emstrey-based firm Salop Leisure is sales and marketing manager Scott Higgins, a season ticket holder at the Greenhous Meadow, and he expects the home team to progress to the next round.

"Max and I were on the phone as soon the draw was made There is a good bit of banter between us which will continue in the build up to the game," he said.

"We are the underdogs but we are defending really well and, now we have Andy Mangan back to score the goals, I'm going for 1-0 win."
