Wem fundraiser remains resolute
Some people find it difficult to keep up with their lent resolutions for the whole 40 days.
But one Shropshire woman has extended her challenge to raise money for a local swimming pool.
Cadi Price is working from now until the end of March on a gruelling Iron Man challenge in a bid to raise money for a new gym for the Wem Swimming and Leisure Centre.
The pool was taken over by community group the Friends of Wem Pool a year ago, and Cadi's fundraising is part of the group's long-term scheme for its future.
Cadi, who is membership secretary for the group, said: "The building used to have a viewing area for the parents to watch children swimming.
"Swimming lessons are very big in Wem so we'd like to be able to move the gym so that parents can go down to the cafe and watch their children swimming
again."
Last year, Cadi did a marathon swim covering 26 miles in the pool to raise money for new access steps.
But this year, her challenge involves a 4km swim, a 180km cycle and a marathon-length run.
She said: "I'm going to break it down bit by bit.
"Some people give up chocolate for lent but I thought I would do this. It is a challenge for myself and if people want to sponsor me or join in, that's great."
Cadi has already been given a donation of £100 for her challenge from the White Lion pub in Wem. The start of Cadi's challenge marks one year since the Friends group took over the running of the leisure centre from Teme Leisure.
She said: "It has been a really successful 12 months.
"We have nearly 300 members, though people don't have to be a member to swim."
The group now offers children's memberships, swim or gym only memberships, swim and gym membership and memberships for the over-50s.
Anyone who wants to sponsor Cadi in her challenge, or who just wants to donate to the new building should call the leisure centre on (01939) 232460 or search for Friends of Wem Pool on Facebook or Twitter.
