The Shropshire Your Future Careers Fair took place at Telford College of Arts and Technology and was organised by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce. A number of local businesses as well as universities were at the Wellington campus to provide information about working life and further education.

Teresa Rowe, from the chamber, said the event was a great way for young people to look at the options available once they leave the education system.

She said: "We have already held one of these events at Shrewsbury College and that went very well. Then we came on board with TCAT, who have really supported this event, and we had about 700 people here. We have had buses from local schools in Telford, Newport and Bridgnorth come throughout the day, and everyone seems to be taking away a lot of information.

"There are a number of different stalls here, from local businesses to universities, all here to help young people plan their future after education.

"These events are very important to young people in Shropshire, and we are proud to help them in such a way."

One of the stallholders, Richard Nuttard from Shropshire Youth Support Trust, said: "This is the second event I have done with the chamber and they really are valuable for people who are getting ready to leave school or college. We are a registered charity, and we aim to help give young people the chance to start up their own businesses and the equipment they need to get their business started. Quite a few people have been coming to see us."

Daniel Macera from Lawley in Telford is doing an apprenticeship with the chamber of commerce. He was at the event and said he wished they had been held when he was leaving school.

He said: "I find this is so useful for so many young people and I wish there was this opportunity for me when I was leaving.

"This will help so many young people who maybe don't know what they want to do after education."

Shropshire Chamber of Commerce will host another careers event on March 9 at North Shropshire College.
