The thieves were caught on CCTV breaking into Wood Brewery in Wistanstow, near Craven Arms, and caused extensive damage in the process.

But they only got away with the staff's pot of petty cash for playing the National Lottery, according to Edward Wood, managing director of Wood's Shropshire Beers.

However, the thieves did take cash from machines in the nearby Plough Inn.

During the same overnight period, between the evening of January 20 and morning of January 21, a snack bar in a lay-by on the A49 at Bromfield was broken into, and five bikes were taken from a shed by house on Gravel Hill, in Ludlow.

Mr Wood said: "We don't keep cash on premises so they didn't take much. It's just the damage they caused that costs. I've put in a new door and had to get new furniture."

Police are now reviewing CCTV and calling for anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward. Another roadside café was targeted between noon on Saturday and Monday morning at Fellhampton, near Church Stretton, where two vintage tills were stolen, and a Makita drill was stolen from a shed in Rocks Green, Ludlow, and a cement mixer was taken from a detached garage at Walcot Cottages, Chirbury.

A farm workshop at Curdale, near the A4117 at Cleobury Mortimer, was broken into overnight between Sunday and Monday, with two Stihl chainsaws taken.
