Minister says Shropshire primary school among the most improved
A Shropshire primary school has received official notification that is it among the most improved across the country.
Broseley C of E Primary School received a letter from Nick Gibb MP, the Minister of State for Schools, stating that the school's performance puts it in the top 100 schools in England.
The assessment is based on Key Stage Two tests and sustained improvement in attainment at level 4 or above in reading, writing and mathematics each year from 2012 to 2015.
In school league tables published in December last year, 97 per cent of pupils achieved the level four standard in Key Stage 2 tests in maths, reading and writing.
All 33 pupils who took the tests made the level four standard in maths.
The figures placed Broseley 10th in the table of achievement for schools in the Shropshire Council area.
In his letter, Mr Gibb congratulates the school and praises its hard work and professionalism in continuing the drive towards high standards of educational achievement.
The headteacher, staff, governors and parents were thrilled to receive news of their school's success.
Chris Cannon, chairman of governors at the school in Dark Lane, said Mr Gibb's letter recognises the all the hard work the school put in to achieving the performance.
Mr Cannon said: "This is excellent news and to be able to show such improvement year upon year in reading, writing and mathematics is remarkable.
"This letter from the Minister of State for Schools recognises the hard work of the children of Broseley Primary School, the dedication and commitment of the headteacher, the school staff, the support of the parents and the local community."
The chairman added: "Broseley has a school we can all be proud of."
Headteacher Sarah Passey said she was delighted to receive the letter from the MP and that it reflected the efforts of staff and pupils at the school.
She said: "This is down to the hard work of my dedicated staff and children and we will continue to work our hardest to continue to achieve the best outcomes for all of the children at our school.
