Fire crews were called to Cordingley Way, Donnington, at about 3am to tackle the blaze at a ground floor flat of a three-storey block.

A spokesman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said a discarded sofa outside the building had set alight and the fire spread to the window frame of the flat.

No one is believed to have been hurt.

Crews from Telford Central and Wellington used a water jet to put out the fire, then ventilated the property, by about 3.30am.
