Wheatlands Care Home in Much Wenlock and Ottley House Care Home in Shrewsbury were both given ratings of more than 90 per cent in the UK's largest survey of care home residents, Your Care Rating.

The survey is now in its fourth year. More than 20,000 residents in 963 care homes across the UK took part this time, with each care home given an overall score based on resident feedback across four broad themes.

They are staff and care, home comforts, choice and having a say, and quality of life.

Wheatlands Care Home was given an overall performance rating score of 935 out of 1,000, and Ottley House Care Home scored 915.

Both care homes are run by Barchester Healthcare.

Fran Sharp, general manager at Wheatlands, said: "We are glad that residents value the care they receive at Wheatlands.

"We are so pleased with our scores, which show that life for our residents is happy and fulfilling."

Jamie Stubbs, general manager at Ottley House, said: "Every care home resident should be able to speak up about their care.

"We ensure both residents and relatives have the opportunity to voice their opinions.

"My door is always open and we are committed to raising standards and being transparent."

This year's results for every care home surveyed are displayed on the Your Care Rating website at www.yourcarerating.org

The website also shows how homes that took part in the survey last year performed.

The survey was compiled by leading research company Ipsos MORI with input from the care home operators taking part, plus the National Care Forum and Care England.

The Your Care Rating survey shows what residents think of their care homes, while standards are measured through inspections carried out by the Care Quality Commission.
