Newport Kebab Shop in the town's High Street has been closed since Tuesday on the orders of Telford & Wrekin Council following a complaint.

It will not reopen until the problem has been sorted and an inspection is held to show the premises meets "appropriate hygiene standards".

Russell Griffin, for the council, said: "We can confirm following a complaint received from a member of the public, officers from our public protection team took enforcement action to close Newport Kebab Shop because of an active pest issue.

"We have been to court to get this decision ratified and an application was made for a hygiene emergency prohibition order.

"Officers will continue to monitor the premises and they will not be able to re-open until they have addressed the issue and the pests have been eradicated.

"Prior to reopening they will be reinspected to ensure that they meet appropriate hygiene standards."
