Shrewsbury Rugby Club games off for goalpost work
There will be no matches at Shrewsbury Rugby Club's ground this weekend as it prepares to remove the goalposts in the wake of an accident in which a spectator was injured by a falling post.
The club has cancelled all games at Sundorne Castle folloing the accident.
The unnamed man, , who is believed to be from Oswestry, had been watching while his son played a friendly under-11s match between Oswestry and Shrewsbury on February 28 when the top part of the goalpost fell, to the ground hitting him on the head. He is now recovering from his injuries.
Work is now being carried out ahead of taking down the posts on the four pitches. It is understood that the posts will be replaced with new ones in the coming weeks.
Age group matches such as tag rugby and minis, along with senior training will be able to resume at the ground once the current posts have been removed.
