Watch: Shropshire charity founder Bill struts his stuff with pupils in Kenya school visit
Shropshire charity founder Bill Morris got down with the kids at a school in Kenya, surprising them with his dance moves and body popping.
The 59-year-old from Ellesmere was on a fact-finding mission with wife Lynn as part of their Kenya Schools Project when he joined in the dancing demonstration at the Oxsic School in Nairobi.
"One of the lads, Alex, was making fantastic music, drumming using old plastic containers and the pupils were all dancing so I just joined in. I took me back to discos in the 1970s at Ellesmere Town Hall," he said.
The Kenyan Schools Project has just completed the renovation of a nursery class at another school, the Ningawa Primary School. Mr Morris said: "We renovated five classes there but had not money left for the kindergarten. Then Danni and James Evans from Ellesmere's Basecamp gym stepped in. They held a spinathon which raised £1,500. That money has been used to renovate the building and buy 40 little desks for the youngest children."
The Buy a Desk project has been running since the charity was founded over a decade ago and is now just four desks away from having provided 3,000 at schools across Kenya. It sprung from a dream holiday that Bill and Lynn took to Kenya in 2004 and a trip to the Mkwakwani School.
"The children were sitting on concrete floors, barefoot and having to share pencils, paper and books. We promised the headmaster we would try and raise some funds for them upon our return to the UK. The desks not only allow help the children with their education they also give work to the community as they are made locally."
