The attack left 26-year-old Mark Coleclough needing major surgery to reconstruct his jaw, which was broken in three places.

Mr Coleclough was today recovering at home, after being discharged from hospital on Tuesday.

He said he had been on a night out in Telford with his girlfriend's brother Damien Lloyd before the attack took place during the early hours of Sunday morning.

"I was just waiting when some lads in a Range Rover started kicking me," said Mr Coleclough, who works in a fish and chip shop.

He claims he was punched and stamped on in the attack, adding: "My face is all swollen up now.

"It has left me very shaken. I have never met the men before and have no idea why they would do this to me."

Mr Coleclough, who lives in Birchmoor, Brookside, Telford, said the men had been into a pub where had been earlier in the evening and had repeatedly offered to buy him drinks.

He said he had taken the registration number of their car, which has been passed on to police.

The attack happened in the street close to the Three Furnaces Inn in Madeley.

Pub landlord Pete Thompson says he is helping police in any way he can.

He said: "We do have very good closed-circuit television coverage, and that has been handed over to police.

"It was one punch. Unfortunately it caught Mark straight in the face, and our door staff reacted straight away to sort it out and called the police.

"We have got the registration number of the car involved, and have given that to police. The people concerned have been to the pub before and have never been any bother, but they will not be welcome back now."

West Mercia Police spokesman Paul Roberts said witnesses were being sought following the attack.

"The man, in his 20s, is believed to have been attacked by three men shortly after leaving the Three Furnaces Inn in Bridgnorth Road at around 2.30am," he said. "The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for a suspected broken jaw."

Any witnesses are asked to call police, quoting incident number 153s and the date March 13.
