Police in hi-tech drive to make areas of Telford 'no-go' for criminals
Areas of Telford will be "no-go" for criminals, as police are using the latest technology to deter thieves.
Residents in Leegomery and Sutton Hill are being given a free SmartWater home security kit that will allow them to mark their belongings so they can be recovered if they are stolen.
The scheme is part of the We Don't Buy Crime campaign, which targets burglary, car crime and pick-pocketing.
SmartWater, which is made in Telford, is a cutting-edge forensic tool that marks objects with a traceable liquid that carries a unique code to a specific address.
Once applied it is impossible to remove and can only be seen under ultraviolet light.
Officers from the local safer neighbourhood teams will be delivering SmartWater packs to all homes in Leegomery and Sutton Hill over the next few weeks.
Residents in the St Georges area will receive a free crime-prevention pack including We Don't Buy Crime window stickers and an ultraviolet marker pen.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Harding said: "Residents in Telford are sending out a clear warning to criminals that they are not welcome in the town and that if they are intent on committing crime there is a much higher chance they will be caught and prosecuted."
All residents in the West Mercia and Warwickshire policing areas can purchase a SmartWater kit at a promotional price of £25. Call 0870 242 8899. Quote discount code WDBCRIME25.
