The posts at Shrewsbury Rugby Club have now been removed from all four pitches in preparation for replacing them with new uprights and crossbars.

Matches at the ground, at Sundorne Castle on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, were suspended in the wake of the accident on February 28.

A man, believed to be a father of an under-11 player from Oswestry Eagles, was hit on the head by a falling goalpost while watching his son take part in a friendly match.

Age group matches, such as tag rugby and minis, along with senior training were also suspended.

The spectator suffered serious head injuries and was treated at the scene by first aid staff before being taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. He is now recovering.

A probe into the incident was launched by the rugby club and is continuing.

At the time, the Health and Safety Executive was informed and Shropshire Council's public protection team was looking into what happened. The Rugby Football Union, which administers matches at all levels of the game in England, was also told about the accident.
