The star of Silk and The Theory of Everything was the guest of honor at Bridgnorth Leisure Centre, where Bridgnorth Endowed School put on the show on Saturday.

The 41-year-old was there to support the pupils as well as give out some awards following the evening show.

Headteacher Phil Loveday said it was great to have someone well known want to watch the school's production.

He said: "It was a pleasant surprise to hear that Maxine Peake wanted to attend our last performance of Little Shop of Horrors.

"We feel very humbled that she decided to spend her Saturday night with us.

"The cast have been ever so excited that she was coming and she spoke to the cast afterwards which was great.

"We believe she is filming in the area, which is why she was able to come."

"The show has gone ever so well and the standard of the performance is so high.

"Everyone who has come to see it has said it was brilliant.

"The singing has been fantastic and the acting has been just as good.

"I am so proud of the cast and the teachers they have done a great job."

The comedy horror rock musical is based on the black and white, low-budget 1960 film of the same name.
