Telford pupils taste life in construction
Pupils from two Telford schools had a taste of life in the construction industry by becoming house builders.
Three employees from David Wilson Homes led the session in which 30 pupils from Thomas Telford School and Madeley Academy took on the roles.
The pupils were divided into teams of six as they acted as project managers to work their way through all aspects of creating a development before building a model home.
The game was designed for secondary school pupils to give them an insight into the construction industry and the various jobs on offer.
The session was conducted by three employees from David Wilson Homes: Adam Hope, a commercial graduate, Jess Faulkner, a marketing executive, and Harry Pearson, a commercial apprentice.
Adam Hope, from David Wilson Homes said: "It was fantastic to go into Thomas Telford School and hopefully inspire the next generation of homebuilders.
"The game has been designed to engage students in all stages of building a housing development and I hope it gave them the chance to see the many varied roles which are part of the industry."
David Wilson Homes is planning to take the session into other schools over the next few months to give more students the chance to broaden their understanding of the construction industry.
Jo Flynn, executive director of careers at Thomas Telford School, said: "The session was superb and the students really enjoyed taking part and learning more about the construction industry. We were really impressed with Jess, Adam and Harry – they were all positive role models for the industry and for David Wilson Homes."
